What is Corneotherapy?

Corneotherapy is a non-invasive, dermatological approach to skin health that focuses on repairing and maintaining the skin's natural barrier function. Rather than simply treating symptoms or concerns on the surface of the skin, the goal of corneotherapy is to improve overall skin function by working in a way that is biologically compatible with how our cells operate. This involves using topical formulations that contain ingredients similar to those found naturally in the skin to restore the outermost layer of the epidermis, known as the stratum corneum (SC).

The SC plays a crucial role in healthy immune function by keeping environmental aggressors at bay, while simultaneously retaining healthy moisture balance. Evidence has shown that when the stratum corneum is compromised (hello over exfoliation), it can lead to a host of skin issues such as inflammation, acne, dermatitis, and rosacea.

By ditching invasive techniques that overtime can diminish the integrity of our barrier, we instead focus on providing our cells with the nutrients they need to thrive. When the stratum corneum is functioning properly, our cells can operate without the constant burden of inflammatory responses triggered by environmental exposure. This can lead to a visible reduction in signs of premature aging and ultimately support long-term skin vitality.
